Traditional method of summarising and linking assessment areas

If required, several subject assessments can be linked together via the Summarise to Area field on the Subject Assessment Maintenance window. See Linking subject assessment areas using the Summarise to Area field.

The marks awarded for each subject assessment are combined together to produce a single calculated result which can be displayed on a student's report. Each subject assessment is assigned a weighting factor that will determine the priority given to each of the subject assessments when combining them for the total calculated result. See Linking several subject assessment results to produce a single combined mark.

Also see How the combined result is displayed.

Note:
Calculations cannot be performed in the Standalone version of Synergetic. You must use the Network version of Synergetic to calculate student results that are comprised of more than one combined subject assessment. You can enter student results in the Standalone version and the calculated results are applied when you next connect to the network at your organisation and import the results back into the database.

The drawback of this method is that each assessment area can only be used once in subsequent calculations.

In contrast, assessment areas can be used freely on the Formula sub-tab for calculations. See New method of calculating and summarising assessment areas. In the following example, both Weighted Average and Average use Written Exam, Oral Exam and Homework areas. This is not possible using the Summarise to Area field.
