Crystal Reports support

If you need to create or modify a Crystal report, you will need SAP Crystal Reports.

Crystal Reports versions supported include:

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016 (32 bit)

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020 (64 bit)

This can be purchased via SAP at https://www.sap.com/products/technology-platform/crystal-reports.html#buy-nowOur standard Crystal Reports are tested to ensure that they work in both the Windows and Web applications- if there is an issue here then that is covered by our support agreement and a case can be raised in the help portal.

Where you need assistance with custom Crystal Reports we can assist, but this falls outside of our standard product support and will come to the Professional Services team for a quote with consideration on a commercial basis.

We are more than happy to assist you with resolving issues in any situation.

You may find other techniques, tips, tricks and other peer feedback in our online forums in Discourse.

Major difference between Crystal Reports 2016 and 2020

The major difference between Crystal Reports 2016 and 2020 is that 2016 uses 32-bit and 2020 uses 64-bit drivers. You need to ensure that you have the 64-bit versions of your database drivers installed and, if you're using ODBC, that you create 64-bit versions of the ODBC DSNs. These can have the same name as the corresponding 32-bit DSN.

To use Crystal Reports 2020 within Synergetic

As the major difference between 2016 and 2020 is that 2020 uses 64-bit ODBC, then you will need to create 64-bit ODBC connections for you to be able to implement reports using Crystal Reports 2020. Synergetic already creates both 32 and 64-bit versions of the ODBC connection meaning you should already be able to use Crystal Reports 2020.
When you open a 2016 report in 2020, you can just save the report to upgrade it. However, you do not need to upgrade all reports at once - just save them as you require. Synergetic will not be releasing Crystal Report 2020 versions of reports.

Testing

We performed testing on key reports using different functions and features as below

  • Basic text using different fonts, objects ie images

  • Crystal Report features including report geaders, Footers, groups, details, formula, parameters, running total fields etc.

  • Database Objects ie tables, views, stored procedures, images stored in database

  • Sub Reports

  • Charts

  • Exporting to third party formats ie PDF, Excel etc

Conclusion

There is no issue in upgrading your Crystal Reports Developer from 2016 to 2020.
