Maintaining mark books
Use the Staff Mark Book window to maintain the mark book assessment areas of a class. For example, topic tests and assignments that are not part of the mainstream class assessment. These assessments are not usually printed on semester reports but can be. See Class Maintenance - Markbook tab in the Synergetic Assessment and reports manual.
With the Staff Mark Book window you can:
- add entries to the mark book
- delete entries from the mark book
- edit existing entries
- import entries from another class' mark book.
Staff Mark Book window key fields and buttons
Fields
Field | Description |

Seq | Identifying sequence number. |
Heading | Name of the assessment area. Warning: Altering the name of an assessment area changes the meaning of associated results. If you need to do this, then we recommend that you either create a new assessment area or merge it with another one. See Merging other assessment areas into the current assessment area in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual. |
Result Type | Result values available for the subject assessment area. Note: Values are maintained in the luReportResultType lookup table. See luReportResultType lookup table in the Synergetic System maintenance manual. |
Result Group | Group of subject assessment areas. Tip: Use to create groups if you have a large number of assessment areas to manage. You can work with the groups instead of each individual assessment area in Student Results Maintenance.

Mark Out Of | Specify the maximum numeric value for the mark. |
Weighting | Priority that this assessment is to take in the calculated result. |
Override Mask | Range of valid result values. Staff can only enter values within the range specified. Note: You only have to select a Result Type when entering an override result mask if the results are numeric. In this case, select a numeric Result Type, for example MARK, as well as entering an Override Mask. Numeric masks. For example:
Alphanumeric masks. If you want to define values like Beginning,Consolidating,Established then you set up these values as follows:
The pipe (vertical bar) within each type indicates that the characters before it is the value stored in the database. Those characters (for example, B) and the description after them (Beginning) are displayed when you enter results. You do not need to use the pipe but it is recommended so that you are only storing B and not Beginning in the database for each result. Show in Portal | Select to display this mark in the Results tab of the Community Portal. See Markbook_DisplayMode configuration setting in the Community Portal Configuration manual. Tip: Mark books can be displayed or hidden in the Community Portal at the level of the individual assessment, the class, or subject assessment. |
Test Date | Date that the test or examination is held. |
