Using the Email_SMS Configuration window

You can use the Email/SMS Configuration window to update the:

  • email configuration settings
  • SMS (Short Message Service) configuration settings.


 Opening the Email / SMS Configuration window

To open the Email / SMS Configuration window:

  1. Navigate to any of the windows within SynWeb that includes a grid with community members displayed.
    For example, the Student Selector area of Student Maintenance.
  2. Right click.
    The following menu is displayed.
  3. Select one of the following options:
    • Email
    • Email All Records
    • SMS
    • SMS All Records.
    One of the following windows is displayed:
    • Send Email window
    • Send SMS window.
  4. Select the Configure navigation link.

    The Email / SMS Configuration window is displayed.


Email / SMS Configuration window key fields

Email Settings area

Field

Description

Mail Server Name

Name of the mail server used to send emails from your organisation.

Port Number

Port number on the mail server used to send emails from.

Number of email before Pause

Number of emails sent before pausing the service.

Pause duration (millisec)

Duration of the pause after a certain number of emails are sent, expressed in milliseconds.

Configuration setting

SMS Enabled

SMS can be enabled or disabled. Either:

  • select the value to enable the SMS server
  • clear the value to disable it.

SMS_Enabled configuration setting

SMS SMTP Server Name

Name of the mail server used to send emails from. These are later converted to SMS text messages.
For example, this could be your existing mail server which resides inside your organisation's firewall.
The advantage of using a different server is that you can set up different settings for each, such as:

  • Different email filters.
  • Different email disclaimers. The email server usually has a longer, comprehensive disclaimer. The server used for SMS can have a shorter disclaimer.

SMS_Server_Name configuration setting

SMS SMTP Server Port

Port number on the mail server used to send emails from. These are later converted to SMS text messages.
For example, this could be the port used by your existing mail server.

SMS Gateway

URL (Universal Resource Locator) of the SMS gateway server.

SMS_Gateway configuration setting

SMS Max.Char Count

Maximum number of characters allowed to be sent.
