Searching for courses

When you first start Course Maintenance, the Set Course Search Criteria window is displayed. You can search for existing courses or add a new course from this window.

To search for a course:

  1. Select Curriculum > Course Maintenance from the SynWeb main menu.
    The Set Course Search Criteria window is displayed.
  2. Enter your search criteria into the fields.
  3. Click .

    At any stage you can change your selections. To do this, click and then make your new selections.

    Tip: Fields that have a drop-down list to choose from, such as Campus, are case sensitive and depend on how they have been set up in the database lookup tables. We recommend that you always select these fields from the drop-down list.

    The first search result is displayed.
  4. Click on the course links on the left to navigate to other courses.
  5. View the course details. See Maintaining courses.

File Type

Search for courses of a particular file type, either academic or co-curricular.


Search for the campus that the course is taught at, if applicable.

Course Code

Search for the unique identifier of the course, if an individual course is required.


Search using the course description. You can search on part of the description, or use the % character as a wildcard.

Linked Course Code

Course that the current course feeds into. For example, the course is a remedial or preparatory course for another difficult or important course. Students studying this preparatory course will continue into the linked course.
The default value is the current course code, which indicates the course does not feed into another course.

Commission Link Course Code

Course that the current course feeds into. Enrolments in the feeder course count towards the current course when calculating agent commissions. The default value is the current course code.

Active Courses

Select to display only the courses that are marked as active.

Search for a course based on the search criteria you have entered.

Clear the search criteria and start a new search.

Launch the Create New Course window to add a new course to the database. See Creating new courses.
