The Victorian Curriculum is structured using five curriculum frameworks that can be loaded into Synergetic using the Subject Assessment Other Definition Maintenance:

Victorian Curriculum for most students (F-10)

The Victorian Curriculum is structured for F-10 as follows:

  • 11 levels (F-10) with 12 six-monthly increments, representing progression points on the continuum (D.0 -11) against which there is a written standard
  • corresponding numerical values 4.0 - 15.5 for averaging and rollup (used behind-the-scenes)
  • converted to a 5-point age-expected result (A - E).

Schools are required to use a 5-point scale for most students when reporting to parents against clearly defined learning standards. Synergetic uses an A to E scale. The objectives of the Victorian Curriculum are the same for all students. The curriculum offers flexibility for teachers to tailor their teaching in ways that provide rigorous, relevant and engaging learning and assessment opportunities for students with disabilities. 

The following table shows how Victorian Curriculum F-10 continuum score is converted to 5-point age-expected result (A-E) for most students.

Tip: You can use the Vic Curriculum 2.5-10 continuum, 4.5-10 continuum, and 6.5-10 continuum result types to report using a sub-set of valid Victorian Curriculum result values. These codes must be loaded into the luReportResultType lookup table before they can be used. Victorian Curriculum for students with disabilities (A-D)

The Victorian Curriculum is structured for A-D as follows:

  • Towards Foundation Level of the Victorian Curriculum (Levels A to D), provides additional content descriptions and achievement standards to teachers of students with disabilities whose learning progress precedes Foundation level of the curriculum and well outside the expected level of their peers
  • 4 levels, A to D values
  • no six-monthly increment points on the continuum
  • corresponding numerical values 0.5 - 3.5 for averaging and rollup (used behind-the-scenes)
  • not converted to a 5-point age-expected result.


Victorian Curriculum English as an Additional Language (EALVC)

Many students in Australian schools are learners of English as an additional language (EAL). Learners of EAL are students whose first language is a language other than Standard Australian English and who require additional support to assist them to develop English language proficiency. 

The Victorian Curriculum is structured for EAL as follows:

  • EAL standards organised into three pathways:

    • EALA - Pathway A for Years Prep to 2
    • EALB - Pathway B for Years 3 to 6
    • EALC - Pathway C for Years 7 to 10.
       
  • EAL assessments at each stage for:

    • Speaking and Listening
    • Reading and Viewing
    • Writing.

  • EAL scores that vary with, and reflect, the EAL stage:
     
    • A Stages – There are two stages, A1 and A2, each with three proficiency levels:

      - Beginning A1 (A1.1), Consolidating A1 (A1.2), Achieved A1 (A1.3)
      - Beginning  A2 (A2.1), Consolidating A2 (A2.2), Achieved A2 (A2.3). 

    • B Stages – There are four B stages, BL – B3, each with three achievement points:

      - Beginning BL (BL.1), Consolidating BL (BL.2), Achieved BL (BL.3).
      - Beginning B1 (B1.1), Consolidating B1 (B1.2), Achieved B1 (B1.3) 
      - Beginning B2 (B2.1), Consolidating B2 (B2.2), Achieved B2 (B2.3)
      - Beginning B3 (B3.1), Consolidating B3 (B3.2), Achieved B3 (B3.3).

    • C Stages – There are five C stages, CL – C4, each with three achievement points:

      - Beginning CL (CL.1), Consolidating CL (CL.2), Achieved CL (CL.3).
      - Beginning C1 (C1.1), Consolidating C1 (C1.2), Achieved C1 (C1.3) 
      - Beginning C2 (C2.1), Consolidating C2 (C2.2), Achieved C2 (C2.3)
      - Beginning C3 (C3.1), Consolidating C3 (C3.2), Achieved C3 (C3.3)
      - Beginning C4 (C4.1), Consolidating C4 (C4.2), Achieved C4 (C4.3).
