Timetabling by exception

Timetabling by exception

Typically there are two types of timetable structures:

  • A full timetable where all classes are shown on a timetable. These are used by most secondary schools.
  • Timetable by exception where only specialist classes are shown on a timetable. These are used by most primary schools.

Primary Time has been developed around the timetable by exception model.
An exception is created when a year group is allocated to a specialist:

  • subject with a specialist teacher, such as music teacher Susan Thomas (code TNS)
  • room, such as the Library.
