Set up an object hierarchy that suits your organisation. See the Objects manual for more details.

Hierarchy used in the examples

The following object hierarchy has been created to use with the examples in this section.

Each object in the hierarchy is an accommodation object. That is, each object has an Object Type of Accommodation, as shown in the example below. See Object Maintenance - General tab in the Objects manual.

External accommodation supplier objects, such as Grimwade Hostel, are set up below the Accommodation Suppliers object. Accommodation suppliers can have several students booked at once.

Student contact objects, such as Jones, Helen, are set up using the Contacts sub-tab. These are used to link a student's accommodation needs to one of their contacts, if required. Student contacts can only have one student booked at time. See Current Student Maintenance - Accommodation tab - Contacts sub-tab.

Alternative hierarchy

Alternatively, you may choose to reduce branching to External Accommodation, rather than having the two extra categories:

  • Accommodation Suppliers
  • Student Contacts.

Accommodation supplier objects are mixed in with student contact objects, as shown in the example below. This may not be an issue at your organisation.
