Use the Mark Book tab to record results for mark book areas of assessment for the selected class. For example, topic tests and assignments that are not usually part of the mainstream class assessment. These assessments are not usually printed on semester reports but can be.
Student mark book results are stored for each reporting period so that you can enter a fresh set of results each period or term if required. The setup of mark book areas is linked to classes and can be copied across reporting periods throughout the year if required, provided that the correct semester or term creation rules have been set up.

Example of using a mark book

For example, for Art the main required assessment areas might be:

  • work requirements
  • project
  • exam mark.

The art teacher has held several topic tests and recorded student attitudes towards class. The teacher wants to record the test and project results somewhere on the system so that they can be archived but not printed on the normal end of term report.
You can:

 

 Opening the Mark Book tab

To open the Mark Book tab:

  1. Select Module > Assessments, then Student Results Maintenance.
    The Set Student Results Search Criteria window is displayed.
    Tip: You can also access the Set Student Results Search Criteria window by clicking .
  2. Search for the teacher and class you want to maintain assessment results for. See Searching for student results.
    The Single Student tab of the Student Results Maintenance window is displayed.
  3. Click the Mark Book tab.
    The Mark Book tab of the Student Result Maintenance window is displayed.

Fields

Field

Description

Group

Result group for the subject assessment area, if applicable.
Tip: If you have a lot of subject assessment areas, you can group them together using the Result Group field. See Creating new subject assessment areas. You can select the result group from the group field then select subject assessment areas from within the group, instead of searching the full list.

Show Left

Select to include students who have left your organisation in the list.

Show Non Assessable

Select to include non-assessable students in the list.

Auto Scroll

Select to automatically move the cursor down to the next grid cell when you press Enter.

Buttons

Button

Description

Go to the first student.

Go to the previous student.

Go to the next student.

Go to the last student.

The button beside the:

  • Class code and name launches the Class Maintenance window. See Maintaining classes in the Assessments and reports manual.
  • Staff code launches the Staff Maintenance window. See Maintaining staff in the Human resources manual.
  • Student name and number launches the Student Maintenance window. See Maintaining current students in the Current students manual.

Add a topic comment for the selected student.

Enter a new mark book assessment area or view or update details of the current mark book assessment area.

Results grid area
The student results for the class are displayed in a matrix on the Mark Book tab. You can enter results for all mark book assessment areas for each of the students.
