The highest level of Māori Mäori language learning the student is involved in.

To allocate a code to an individual student, start at the top of the list and work down. Use the first code that applies to the student.

Type of learning

MāoriMäori-medium Education – Students are taught curriculum subjects in both Māori Mäori and English (bilingual).
Te Reo MāoriMäori – Students learn Māori Mäori Language as a separate subject.
Taha MāoriMäori – Students learn waiata, greetings and simple phrases.

Indigenous language level

The following indigenous language levels are used in the NZMOE tab of Current Student Maintenance:

Curriculum is taught in Māori Mäori for more than 7.5 and up to 12.5 hours per week (31 – 50% of total time).

Curriculum is taught in Māori Mäori for more than 3 and up to 7.5 hours per week (12% - 30% of total time) i.e. more than 70% of instruction is in English.
