Australian Curriculum is a curriculum framework developed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) for use in all states and territories of Australia. It covers Foundation to Year 12. It was first endorsed in December 2010.

• At that time, Victorian Government and Catholic schools (and independent Victorian schools if they chose to) were using the Victorian Essential learning Standards (VELS) Curriculum framework. 
• The VELS curriculum was then adapted to conform to and extend the Australian Curriculum and the resultant Curriculum Framework, called AusVELS, was adopted in 2013.
• In 2016/2017 a new curriculum framework is being adopted to replace AusVELS called the Victorian Curriculum. It is less prescriptive in reporting requirements and addresses a number of weaknesses in the AusVELS framework especially in regard to high or low achieving students. 
• Some parts of the Victorian Curriculum were able to be implemented in 2016 by Government schools but the Catholic sector is adopting the Victorian Curriculum in 2017.
• Some aspects of the Victorian Curriculum may not be ready to be adopted in 2017 (E.g. EAL) and therefore schools will be given some flexibility in some subjects as to whether they use AusVels or Victorian Curriculum in 2017.

Synergetic Implementation

Loading the pre-defined Victorian Curriculum framework

Loading the Victorian Curriculum framework is the first step. This is task is performed by clicking in the new Curriculum Framework area of the Subject Assessment Other Definition Maintenance window.

This will bring up the following window where you will be prompted for the framework to load.

Transitioning subject assessment areas from AusVELS to Victorian Curriculum

Once the Victorian Curriculum framework has been loaded you need to transition the subject assessment areas from AusVELS to the Victorian Curriculum framework. This task is performed on the Area sub-tab of the Area tab in Subject Assessment Maintenance by selecting Victorian Curriculum values in the following fields for each subject assessment area.

Creating expected result assessment areas

Schools are required to indicate the expected mark for each student taking a Victorian Curriculum class. This task is managed by creating expected result assessment areas for each existing subject assessment area. For example, the Mathematics subject assessment area Statistics and Probability needs a Statistics and Probability (Expected) subject assessment area. In this case we create two assessment areas - one for the expected result and one for the actual result.  Both results will be linked to the same curriculum record, however the expected one will have the new Expected Result checkbox ticked.  It is also highly recommended that you prefix the headings with EXP as there is no other visual indication on the results entry screen that this is an expected result.  These headings must be manually altered by the user.

Student Results Maintenance

Once the previous two steps are completed you can enter Victorian Curriculum results using Student Results Maintenance. Victorian Curriculum results are use a numerical scale (0.5-15.5) that converts to a five-point scale (A-E) when output for reports. Additionally, there is a value for students that did not participate (DNP). When this field is selected you are prompted to select a reason why the student did not participate using the Result Classification window.

For Continuing AusVELS Sites

Schools that were using Synergetic AusVELS functionality prior to v67.24 should be aware of the following

• Even if all results were already entered and the results calculation was already run, the Student Result Calculation/Checks program should be re-run for your current semester for all frameworks in use.  If this is not done, the new Curriculum Framework reports such as RepCurricStu will not render correctly.
• The RELS framework has been replaced with RE.  If RELS had previously been loaded into Subject Assessment Other Definitions Maintenance, it will have been replaced with RE, which contains the same four strands (REKAU, REPCE, RERAR and REREL)
• Old-style EAL result types (those with result values of 0.00, 0.50, 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75 etc.) will still work as long as Domain Codes of ESS, ESA and ESB are used, and the ExternalSystemType and ExternalSystemCode are updated for the relevant records in luReportResultType.  However, at the first opportunity these result types should be changed to the new EAL result types (with result values of A1.1, A1.2, A1.3 etc.) as soon as is practical (i.e. at the start of the next reporting period).
• Existing VELS and AusVELS views and reports will be deprecated in a future version of Synergetic.  Any new Curriculum Framework reports should be based on the new views vStudentAssessmentResultsCurriculum )page per-student)) and vStudentAssessmentResultsCurriculumClasses (page per-student class) and plans should be made to stop using reports which are reliant on vStudentAssessmentResultsAusVELS, vStudentAssessmentResultsAusVELSClasses, vStudentAssessmentResultsVELS or vStudentAssessmentResultsVELSClasses as soon as possible.  New standard Synergetic Curriculum Framework reports are those starting with 'RepCurric'.
