You can configure the Community Portal to enable students to submit self assessment comments.
Creating self assessments on the Community Portal
To configure self assessments in Synergetic:

  1. Open Synergetic.
  2. Click System Maintenance > Lookup Tables Maintenance.
  3. Select the luReportResultType lookup table. See luReportResultType lookup table in the Synergetic System Maintenance manual.

The luReportResultType lookup table is displayed.

  1. Click to create a new entry.
  2. Type a code.
  3. Type a description.
  4. Type a short description.

Note: This is used as the heading in Results Maintenance.

  1. Select COMMENT in the SynergyMeaning column.
  2. Select STUCOMSELFENTRY in the CommPortalMeaning column.
  3. Create a Subject Assessment area using the new result type. See Creating new subject assessments in the Synergetic Assessments and reports manual.
  4. Click the Summary > Summary sub-tab.
  5. Select Topic comments used.
  6. Click the Area > Area sub-tab.
  7. Select Show on screen.
  8. Deselect Force read only.
  9. On the Area > Comments sub-tab:
  • Enter PortalPrompt in the Topic field.
  • Select the Comment field and enter the prompt to appear on the Community Portal.


Configuring self assessments in the Community Portal
To configure self assessments in the Community Portal using the:

  • Portal 6 rendering method, see Maintaining self assessment configuration settings
  • Portal 7 rendering method, use the following steps:
  1. Log into the Community Portal as an administrator.

Tip: Admin users are separated by commas between the <AdminUserNames></AdminUserNames> tags in the XML file. See Editing the SynCommPortal.xml configuration file (on page ).

  1. Click Configuration in the Admin Panel.
  2. Select Portal 7 method from the Menu render method field.
  3. Click Self Assessment in the Menu items field.

Maintain the configuration setting to customise the way the Community Portal displays the Self Assessments tab. See Using the Admin Panel (on page ).
Tip: Self assessments are only visible for students, but administrators can access the student view by clicking Impersonate in the Admin Panel. See Using the Admin Panel (on page ).
