The Short Message Service (SMS) allows text messages to be sent and received by mobile devices.
Use Configuration File Maintenance to set SMS settings.
To update SMS settings for your organisation:

Select Module > System > Configuration File Maintenance.
Type sms.
The Configuration File Maintenance window is displayed with your SMS settings.

Key configuration settings

Configuration setting	Description	See
SMS:Character-Count	Maximum number of characters allowed to be sent.	SMS:CharacterCount configuration setting
SMS:Enabled	SMS can enabled or disabled. Either: select the value to enable SMS clear the value to disable it.	SMS:Enabled configuration setting
SMS:Gateway	URL (Universal Resource Locator or web address) of the SMS gateway server.	SMS:Gateway configuration setting
SMS:Server:Name	Name of the mail server used to send emails from. These are later converted to SMS text messages. For example, this can be your existing mail server which resides inside your organisation's firewall.	SMS:Server:Name configuration setting
SMS:Server:Port	Port number on the mail server used to send emails from. These are later converted to SMS text messages. For example, this can be the port used by your existing mail server.	SMS:Server:Port configuration setting
Termination-String	Add a termination string to the end of an SMS message to drop parts of the message appearing after it.	TerminationString configuration setting

Typical setups for enabling Synergetic's SMS capability

Synergetic creates an SMS message for the selected users. Synergetic then uses the nominated mail server to generate an SMTP email message that is sent to an external email-to-SMS gateway, through your organisation's firewall. The email-to-SMS gateway sends an SMS text message to the mobile phones of the selected users.

In the following example, an email-to-SMS gateway within your organisation may be used. The email-to-SMS gateway sends an SMS text message to the mobile phones of the selected users.
